Find the Parenting Blog That's Right for You
Are you trying to find a good blog about parenting right now? Here are five suggestions.
Choose a blog about parenting that has details about your child's age. If you find a blog for parents of teens but your child is only five, this parenting blog is not going to help you right now. Unless you have a teenager and a five-year-old.
Find a blog about parenting that suits you. At the top of the blog, it should say what the blog is about or what kind of information it shares. If you have a boy and find a blog that says it gives tips and stories on how to raise girls every two weeks, you might not want to read it. Unless it gives you something else that you want. On Fridays, it might give tips on how to eat healthy or post easy dinner recipes. If this sounds interesting to you, just read the Friday posts.
If your child has behavior problems, you shouldn't read a blog where a parent brags about how great their child is. You might find this annoying. You can find a lot of helpful information about how to deal with children's bad behavior on the Internet. Choose at least two blogs that are directly about your child's problem. I.e, ADD or ADHD. Try reading a few to find out what the advice is like. Choose ones that fit the way you raise your kids. Or ones that give you tips you might actually follow. You can read more than one blog at a time. Compare advice. If you want to find a blog where parents talk about what has helped them, look at the end of the piece or post. Also, take a look at old pieces about parenting. This is a treasure trove of facts!
Don't ignore parenting blogs just because you think they won't teach you anything useful. Let's say you're looking for a blog that reviews movies for families and you find one with stories about environmental problems that can affect kids. If you suddenly decide, "Hey, I like that, but I don't want to read this blog every week," then check it out once a month. Only click on the posts that have to do with this problem.
Find a blog whose author shares your beliefs or points of view. If you are an atheist or a gay hippie, you might not want to read a blog written by a conservative Christian mom who believes in being polite. Unless you like the decorating ideas she posts or the arts and crafts projects she shares. But don't get mad if you read some of her parenting tips that might have something to do with the Bible. Also, when picking a blog, ask yourself if you like the people who follow the blog master. This is a good thing to think about. Someone I know liked a certain blog, but she stopped reading it because a reader kept making comments that she thought were stupid. Since there are so many blogs, it's easy to stop reading one and start reading another. Do not let blog posts or comments rain on your day.
